Little is known about the personal life of Julian of Norwich, not even if she was originally from Norwich or if she moved there from somewhere else. Some people theorize that she was a Benedictine nun. She was certainly an anchoress, or hermit, living in seclusion devoted to contemplation, who received and recorded visions from God. The book in which those visions are recorded is called Revelations of Divine Love. Sometimes the book is listed as The Book of Showings. She is thought to have been the first woman to write a book in English. Her most famous line (quoted in a poem by T. S. Eliot) is: "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well."
